Kirkeboken har bestått av to separate bøker; 1834-1853 og 1854-1874 som har vært ført felles for hele prestegjeldet, i avdelinger for hvert av soknene Brønnøy, Vik og Naustvik. Da Naustvik i 1875 ble utskilt som Velfjord prestegjeld ble sidene som omhandlet Naustvik tatt ut og bundet inn som egen bok (814A05), jfr. påtegning på innerpermen i 813A08. Da Vik ble utskilt som eget prestegjeld i 1901 ble også sidene herfra på samme måte tatt ut og bundet inn som egen bok (812A05).
